race against time (ford fair)

well with just 11 days to go to ford fair my gearbox is out and sat on a bench at work in bits. the plan was to try and rebuild it using new bearings and seals etc  but things don't always go to plan the casing is well beyond being used. John (socket) let me have a spare box he had and plan b was to recon that gearbox using said parts but when striped some of the gears are a little worn and grate slightly. so plan c is to try and build one box out of the two using most of my internals other than the parts that the failed bearing ran on and the casing from socket. so fingers crossed it will be sorted in time.

Well after a bit of a panic yesterday due one of the bearings being wrong and the original supplier having no stock of the right size bearing I had a run around the city's bearing suppliers and eventually managed to find one. Today saw the box back together and is now currently sat in one of the low bake ovens drying off. Hopefully it should be back in the car tomorrow.

well all's well again but it wasn't without it's problems. the gear oil saga at work would take ages to explain but lets just say a major disaster was avoided pmsl now. then found a small leak on the exhaust so that had to be sorted while it was on the ramp. but it's all back in with a new starter another job that may as well get done while I can, and it runs really well no more whining or leaking driveshaft seals.
