Hi everyone its been a while (old forum site ) a quick description and history will post up some photos later on when I am allowed

I bought the cab in 2001 she was fitted with an rsturbo lump and gearbox gti wheels in white cosworth illusion bumpers
underneath was standard shocks with horrendiously cut springs so much so that she was riding on the bumpstops not the best of rides
inside it was a standard 1.6i trim with rear pods and front speaker mounts trimmed in blue for some reason and 6x9's moulder into the rear speaker pods (now all of this to a young at heart 28 year old was quite cool but now as a 40 year old some of it is a bit naff lol)

after owning it for a few years as I had bought it I had problems with the rsturbo lump and wiring etc so I took out the turbo lump and replaced it with a 2.0litre zetec engine running motorbike carbs and megajolt ecu .changed the shocks for a set of gmax sports kit shocks and springs and found a set of half leather recaros and rear seats (the recaros are not mint but they are all there and may get re trimed at some point if funds allow but no rush

wheels were re powder coated in silver as the white were a nightmare to keep clean and getting tatty
the rear speaker pods were taken out and a set of better ones were added with some smaller less intrusive speakers front ones will also be changed when I find a decent pair

Now the car is back on the road after 2 years sat to my shame I would say unloved but I have never wanted to part with it tried half heartedly to sell it at the wife's request (I quote "its sat there doing nothing making the drive look untidy") but honestly I don't think I could and if it had gone I know I would have regretted it the moment it was gone

so quiet in work at the moment I decided to strike while the iron was hot and get her sorted and back on the road and give her a bit of love so
she has so far had a good clean and mot'd her yesterday (passed with no problems at all ) and now she is off to the paint shop for a good polish and a touch up which leads me on to my BIG stumbling block do I leave her as she is with the illusion bumpers and evo spoiler or do I change back to something more as ford intended by that I mean 90's spec rs turbo bumpers would if I did go that way would have to be with the extra skirt bits and I know how hard they are to find and how much they go for opinions would be nice as it is really the only sticking point with her will post some photos up asap

well the car has been at the painters since Friday no been to look since the will probably pop in on my way home tonight
I have decided to keep her with the illusion bumpers but I am on the look out for some 90's spec bumpers with the extra rs lower bumper add ons for front and rear If anyone has any drop me a pm Wink  and also a different boot spoiler from the rs parts bin but unsure as to which one the cabs came with as have seen a few differing ones fitted again any suggestions or pics

below are some old photos of the old girl as she was

on an interesting note while having the mot done I got pulled up on my number plates with them being a honeycone background was going to be a fail as tester had thought the regs had changed indeed they had but it seams only on car made after 2001 so fail avoided and the mot tester said that he had thught it was any car and stood corrected lol

paint being done on the car are rear bumper damage from stone chips and mark on the centre by the number plate light ,
rear spoiler from splitting on mould edge ,
paint chipped off skirts ,
front lower bumper (black part from kerb damage will be re painted in matt black rather than gloss ) and a good buff up to get it shiny again

inside have treated the seats to a bit of leather feed to try and soften them up to stop the cracking as I cannot afford to get them retrimmed at the moment they seam to have taken well to this again will post some pics when I get the car back

on the engine front the zetec is running well but the exhaust is on the loud side but am happy to leave that as it is for the time being but I am thinking about replacing the engine for an st170 lump does anyone know if this has been done in a cabriolet before ?

well dropped in on the painters last night on my way home the prep is coming along nicely only issue he has ran into is that he has had to prep and will have to paint the bumpers on the car as he cannot get them off without digging to find the fixing screws / bolts as they have been filled over so without costing me extra this is best way few quick photos I took

front bumper has had some damage over the years (low bumper and high kerbs don't mix too well )

my mk4 cab 006-3

the rear wing did come off so the repairs to the mould line have been easier to sort

my mk4 cab 007-4

the rear bumper was showing sign of stone chip damage to the front edge I may add a pair of rear mud flaps of some sort just to stop this happening again

my mk4 cab 004-2

my mk4 cab 002-2

the cracking to the middle of the bumper was not too bad

my mk4 cab 001-2

all in all its coming back to life slowly so will be glad to get it back maybe by the end of the week then I can get on with sorting out a few other things I would like to do to it
